Introduction to Fractions
In this 6-session class, your child will build a strong understanding of what fractions really mean, learn how to compare and represent fractions, and gain confidence explaining their thinking through hands-on visual models, real-world examples, and guided problem-solving discussions.

Class Overview
Session 1: What is a Fraction, Really?
Your child learns what fractions represent and why they matter by exploring parts of a whole using visual models and everyday examples. This session builds the foundation needed for all future fraction work.
Session 2: Equal Parts Matter
Your child discovers why fractions only work when parts are equal and practice identifying correct and incorrect fraction models. This helps prevent one of the most common fraction misunderstandings early on.
Session 3: Fractions on a Number Line
Your child connects fractions to numbers by placing them on a number line. This session strengthens number sense and helps fractions feel less abstract and more meaningful.
Session 4: Comparing Fractions Visually
Your child learns how to compare fractions using models and reasoning instead of tricks or memorization. The focus is on explaining why one fraction is larger or smaller.
Session 5: Equivalent Fractions Made Simple
Your child explores how different fractions can represent the same amount using visual tools and patterns. This session builds confidence and prepares students for more advanced fraction concepts.
Session 6: Putting It All Together
Your child applies everything they’ve learned by solving mixed fraction problems and explaining their thinking out loud. This final session reinforces understanding, confidence, and clear mathematical communication.
