Izrael Rothenberg, B.S. Education
I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I was in 5th grade. That year, I was given the opportunity to mentor a kindergarten student. Every day, I visited his classroom and worked with him on his schoolwork. I felt a profound sense of accomplishment as I watched him learn and grow throughout the year. From that moment on, the spark never left me.
I continually sought out opportunities to teach others, and when it came time to choose a major in college, I chose education without hesitation. I graduated from Pensacola Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and accepted a position as a 5th-grade teacher at a private school here in Orlando. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of serving in a variety of roles in education—classroom teacher, interventionist, special education teacher, and, of course, private tutor.
The spark that ultimately led me to launch Brainy Tutor came from a place of frustration with the education system. I saw too many of my students falling through the cracks—students I wasn’t able to help in the way they truly needed. Even as an interventionist, I often couldn’t provide the level of individualized support they deserved. I knew I had a gift for helping students succeed, but I felt that gift was being limited by a system that wasn’t designed to meet every child’s needs.
So I started Brainy Tutor.

Today, I’m incredibly grateful to be able to do what I set out to do—provide students with truly personalized support and help them make meaningful, lasting progress.
Teaching Philosophy
At the core of my teaching philosophy are three key principles: multisensory learning, critical thinking, and real-world connections.
I believe students learn best when they are actively engaged - not just listening, but seeing, doing, speaking, and thinking. That’s why I use a multisensory approach in my sessions. Whether it’s visual models, hands-on problem solving, or having students explain their thinking out loud, I make sure learning is interactive and meaningful. This helps concepts “stick” and builds a deeper level of understanding, especially for students who may have struggled with traditional methods.
I also place a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking skills. It’s not enough for students to memorize steps or procedures - they need to understand why those steps work. I guide students to analyze problems, make connections, and explain their reasoning. Over time, this builds confidence and independence, so they’re not just completing problems—they’re truly thinking like mathematicians and problem-solvers.
Finally, I strive to connect learning to the real world whenever possible. When students see how what they’re learning applies outside of the classroom, it becomes more relevant and engaging. Whether it’s through real-life problem scenarios, practical applications, or meaningful examples, I help students understand that what they’re learning has value beyond a worksheet or a test.
Together, these three principles create a learning experience that is engaging, effective, and built to last.
Izrael Rothenberg, B.S. Education
Hi, I’m Izrael! I absolutely love math. But even more than that, I love teaching math to others. This may sound cliche, but I truly do find it incredibly rewarding to watch the “light bulb” moments for my students. I also enjoy seeing students develop a passion for math as they begin to realize how it connects to the real world. Math is incredibly useful in life!
This may sound like a brag, but I truly believe there are few tutors out there who can do what I do. Because I have experience teaching math across such a wide range of grade levels, I have a big-picture view that allows me to identify the exact prerequisite skills a student needs to get from where they are to where they need to be. As a result of my breadth of experience (and my incredibly nerdy, unending pursuit of new teaching methods), I’ve seen students who were two, sometimes even three, grade levels behind catch up within just a few months.
But more important than catching students up to grade level is helping them develop confidence. I aim to make sure that every one of my students knows that it is okay to make mistakes. That is how we learn. We try and fail and try again. My students feel comfortable working with me, because they know that I’m not going to get upset when they get a wrong answer or don’t remember something I taught them.
So there’s a little preview of who I am. If you are ready for your child to experience real growth in math and to restore their self-confidence, then I’d love to chat with you! Fill out the form below and, I will give you a call during one of your preferred times.
